The 18th “Chai” Maccabiah was held in Israel from July 12th to 24th.
Over 7.000 Jewish athletes from over 60 nations met in Israel for the largest world sports games in the history of the Maccabiah to date.
The Opening Ceremony:
The opening ceremony took place in the presence of the Israeli President in the internationally renowned Ramat Gan Stadium in front of around 50.000 spectators. The event was televised live worldwide. This Maccabiah Opening Ceremony was the biggest and most beautiful yet.
Team MAKKABI Germany:
The German MAKKABI national team competed with 180 participants to express their solidarity with the State of Israel and the Jewish community with this presence. The 180 participants consisted of 65 juniors, 95 adult athletes and 20 supervisors. This is the largest German delegation that has ever taken part in the European Maccabi Games or at a Maccabiah in Israel. Our 160 athletes are the best of the 4.000 Jewish athletes from the 37 Maccabi local clubs in Germany.

Conclusion & balance sheet:
For all of us, and especially for the youngsters who took part in Junior Maccabiah, it was an unforgettable experience to remember for a lifetime. We are already looking forward to the next Maccabiah in 2013.
