MACCABI TEAM VISITS SHAUL LADANY

He's an inspiration, a legend, our honorary Maccabee for life!

Shaul Ladany was deported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1944 when he was only eight years old. He belonged to the minority of Jewish prisoners who were saved as a result of negotiations between Swiss and Hungarian Jewish organizations and were allowed to travel to Switzerland.

After the end of World War II, Ladany emigrated to Israel and became a renowned scientist and outstanding athlete. In the discipline "walking" took part in the Olympic Games in Munich and survived the anti-Semitic attack by the Palestinian terrorist group "Black September" on the Israeli team on September 5, 1972.

Today Shaul is 86 years old. And he still does sports, walks hundreds of kilometers a year. After being guest of honor at our Junior Games in Munich in 2017, he even competed for MAKKABI Germany in the half marathon at the European Maccabi Games in Budapest in 2019.

Today he is still a part of MAKKABI, a part of us, our friend. Thank you Shaul for inviting us to your place today. It was like coming home.

Stay by our side for a long time!
